SNOWBALL

      by Shel Silverstein

I made myself a snowball
Just as perfect as could be.
I thought I’d keep it as a pet
And let it sleep with me
I gave it some pajamas
And a pillow for it’s head.
Then, last night it ran away,
But first –it wet the bed!

DECORATING IDEAS

Table

Room

Other

Your table calls for a snowy look and you can get this with the Let It Snow theme table settings. Then add the Snowflake Table Decor pictured above,
which i
ncludes (2) 18" foil cascade centerpieces, (3) foil 3-d centerpieces, (5) packs of 12' wire garland and (2) packs of Fabric confetti to scatter!

 "Snowflake Shaped 18"" Foil Balloon"

Balloons are the easiest way to decorate any room. Use the Snowflake foil balloon above mixed with Crystal 12" Balloons and  Midnight Blue 12"balloon.

You can make balloon bouquets with 4 Crystal, 4 Midnight Blue and 1 Snowflake Foil balloon.

Pain each letter of "SNOW" on 4 red pails. Glue foam balls inside to the top. Tie bouquet to handle of pail. Or tie bouquet to an item like a stuffed snowman.

Create a ceiling of snowflakes with 30" Snowflake Danglers.

Add icicle borders or winter scene setters to create that indoor snow scene.

Add some glow to your party room with blue fiber optic lights.

If you have snow outside for your party, greet your guest by writing words in the snow with a spray bottles filled with water and food coloring.

Use clear holiday lights to add a twinkle around your home or party room.

Line your walk way or drive way with Snowflake LED Luminaries. They are safe and long lasting and battery operated. The kit includes 6 11" paper bags and 6 LED tea lights.

GAME IDEAS

Snowball Relay Race

Supplies: Styrofoam balls (miniature) or Cotton Balls and bucket for each team.

Set up: Mark a starting line and finish line about 10 ft apart. Place the bucket for each team on the finish line. Teams line up on the starting line. Foam balls or cotton balls for each team are spread out between the lines. Prior to the party you need to make sure there are enough snowballs for each team. You can tell them to count (for example 25 balls to win or you can mark a line in the pail, first team to fill their bucket to the line wins.

How To Play: Divide into teams. The object is to fill your teams bucket with snowballs first. Each child takes a turn to place a snowball in their pail, then runs back to the end of their team line, continuing until their pail is full to the line or contains a certain number of snowballs.  First team to finish wins.

You can take this outdoors and use real snow if you have a good snow base. Instead of using foam balls the kids have to make a snowball and then put it in their team bucket.

Pass the snowball - Play like Hot Potato, but pass an oversized foam ball to some fun Winter music.

Pin the Carrot on the Snowman -

Use a real snowman or create a paper snowman or use a snowman cutout.

For the real snowman, use mini carrots and see who can get it closest.

For a cutout snowman, make little carrot shapes from paper or foam craft.  Number the carrot game pieces or write each guests name on them to easily see who's carrot is closest. The closest to the original nose position wins.

Snowflake Hunt - Prior to the party make pairs of paper snowflakes, enough pairs for each guest. Make sure the designs are distinct enough tell apart.  Before your guest arrive, hide snowflakes around the party room or just hang them on the walls for decorations.  Put the remaining snowflakes in a bag. Have each guest pick a snowflake. After everyone has a snowflake, tell them they must find their matching snowflake in the room.  The first to find his/her match wins!  Tip: To make it harder for older kids, cut out additional snowflakes without a matching pair, so there are more to compare against.

ACTIVITIES

Mitten Decorating

This is a good opening activity for a Winter party.  Decorate cotton mittens or gloves. Use pom poms, tiny bows, flat sided jewels, plastic confetti, or any other flat sided craft decorations. Kids can glue on these items and let them dry while you continue with the party. This becomes a take home party favor. Click photo

Snowman Story Time

Serve up some hot cocoa and marshmallows and gather around for a good story.

Build a Snowman

If you live in a climate where you are apt to get snow for your Winter party, then have a the children build a snowman. Here is a great Snowman kit to make it look great.

For those who live in warmer climates create foam snowmen.

You can find large foam

Another snowman project that keeps you indoors is making foam snowman.

Using 3" round foam balls. I like to pre-glue them and then let the kids add top hats, wiggle eyes, twig arms and buttons.

Painting Snow

Paint Snowman in the Snow!

Use spray bottles and food coloring in water and let the kids have fun painting the snow.
