Diego Background:

Diego Marquez is an 8 yr-old action-adventure character on Nickelodeon. He is the cousin of Dora the Explorer.  Diego loves nature and animals.  His mission is to help rescue animals in trouble.  His tools include a video watch; "Click", an animal locator/telescopic camera and his "Rescue Pack" which can become anything he needs by saying, "iActívate!".  His side-kick is Baby Jaguar.  His older sister Alicia is a computer wiz at the Animal Rescue Centre and and communicates with him through video watches.  And as Dora must always be on the look out for Swiper, Diego has to worry about the Bobo Brothers.  They are a pair of Spider Monkeys that are always causing trouble. To stop them you must say, "Freeze Bobos!"   Diego also has some other animal friends like Linda the Llama, Tuga the Turtle and Sammy the Sloth.

Set the scene for an adventure using one of our scene setters.

Put up some Diego & Friends Add-ons on the walls.

Assortment of Animal Bean Bags - Go Diego Go

Use an assortment of balloons tied to small bean bag animals around the room.  For a fiesta look use maracas. Or simply use a gold or silver star balloon weight.

Don't forget a 33" Diego 2-sided Mylar!

Choose some Spanish words that you want the kids to learn at the party. Create large signs with a photo and the English/Spanish words for the item or animal.

 Pass "Click"

Using music from the Diego CD below, play a version of hot potato but pass around a disposable camera. The person who is holding the camera when the music stops is out but they get to "CLICK A PIC" of the other guest making funny faces.

"Name that Animal”

 

Prior to the party write down names of animals on small pieces of paper. Put the papers in a bag. 

Have guest sit in a circle, give bag to one guest to start. They reach in bag for one piece of paper for an animal name. 

The guest must get up and act out the animal. No talking only animal sounds can be made. Other guest must guest what animal they are impersonating.

Peanut Push Relay

Split guest into two herds of elephants.  Each team member must push a peanut from a starting line to an end line with their noses.  First team to have all players complete the task win!

 

Jungle Knots

This game will tie your guests up in knots! Instruct your guests to stand in a circle facing inward. Everyone extends their right hand into the ring and takes hold of someone else's hand. Then, do the same with their left hands. The object of the game is to see if they can untangle the "knot" by stepping over, ducking under people or turning around. Whatever happens, they can't let go of hands!

 Craft an Animal Journal

As guest arrive, they can color while waiting for other guests to arrive.  You can find printables on the Nick Jr. site.

 

Play some tunes from the show while they color.

 

 

Discover! - Choose your child's favorite animal and gear the party around that animal.  Do activities that will let your guest learn about the animal. 

 

Parents, you can take any of the shows episodes to help guide your animal discovery.  Choose your child's favorite episode. 

 

 

 

 Purchase inexpensive journals at the dollar store.  Let kids create their own animal journal with cut out animal pictures from magazines, printed pictures from the Internet, animal stickers, craft items, etc. Visit a craft store or a Scrapbooking store for supplies. Take a picture of each child with their safari hat on using a digital camera and print the photos while the kids are crafting their books. Or use a Polaroid camera. Let the kids decorate the front cover with their photo.

  • Swamp Juice - Gatorade

  • Animal Shaped Finger sandwiches, use animal cookie cutters

  • Ants on a Log - Celery Sticks filled with Peanut Butter and topped with raisins

  • Monkeys on a Stick – Push a craft stick into a peeled banana. Coat the banana in dipping chocolate or peanut butter and roll in peanuts or chocolate sprinkles. Freeze and serve.
