ACTIVITIES

Dancing

If your not using a band or DJ, then make sure you line up your CD or cassette music ahead of time. You want to keep your guest dancing all night long. Mix up some slow with fast to give them a break.

Don't forget the Shimmering Balls

Hat Contest

Ask your guest ahead of time to be creative and wear a crazy New Year Hat.  Assign a number to each hat entry, let guest vote all night, announce the winner after Midnight!

White Elephant Grab Bag

Ask each guest to bring a white elephant gift. Maybe it was something they didn't like for Christmas. Prior to the party create number tags, two of each number up to the number of guests or couples you expect.  Put one set in a bag. When guest arrive with a white elephant gift, let them pull out a number from the bag  They must hold onto that number for the game.

Keep the second set aside in a another gift bag for use later.  Gifts can be arrange under a tree, a corner or table.  About 10:30 pm, start the fun. Using the second bag of numbers, pull out a number. (You may get numbers not assigned if not everyone who came is participating.) Call out a number, the person with that number gets to pick a new white elephant gift.  Continue until all gifts are redistributed.  You could add the element of "stealing" a gift from someone who already picked one, forcing them to take another gift. This usually adds more time to the game.

Wine Tasting Game

Set out 3 or 4 different bottles of wine and provide small plastic cups for sampling. Make sure you have enough of each bottle for the size of your crowd.  Cover the bottles with a cloth bottle cover.

Each bottle cover is numbered.  Give each guest a piece a paper with numbers matching the wine bottles. Let each guest guess what type of wine it is. Give out a prize for the one who guessed the most right.  To make it easier for those who are not wine connoisseurs, give them a multiple choice list or matching list. Prepare to have a tie-breaker option.

Trivia

Using any Trivia in a Tin or create your own trivia base on the past year's top happenings.  Play as individuals, teams or couples.

For fun, hand out extra New Year's Eve accessories like noisemakers, leis, beads, glow items, etc.

Whose Line Is It? Balloon Bust People of 2007
Capture lines from a popular DVD out in 2007 like Pirates of the Caribbean and write them down on index cards. The saying on one side and the cast member on the other side.

Play in teams, with each team player getting a chance to guess "Whose Line Is It?" Assign a point value like 10 to each correct answer, the first team to reach 100 or 200 wins?

Use silver and gold or black and silver balloons to identify two teams. With ribbon or string tie balloons to guests ankles.

As guest arrive, alternate between the two the colors to even out the teams.

As guess mingle they must protect their balloon.  It your balloon is popped your out.  The team with the last balloon wins.

This is the "Who Am I" game.

Each guest gets a name tag worn on their back, with the name of a famous person in the News of 2007.

They may ask yes or no questions of other guests to figure out who they are.

First to figure out who they are is the winner or give out party beads, hats, horns and whistles to those who figure out who they are.
