Hosting A Shower

Who hosts a Shower?

What you need

 to decide?

What Next?

Traditionally it is a close friend or family member.

With many women working outside the home, sometimes a second shower is given by co-workers at the office or at a restaurant.

  • Choose a date 4 to 6 weeks prior to due date

  • Set a time & location

  • Determine the type and size of the shower - budget considerations

  • Determine the type of shower (brunch, luncheon, afternoon tea, dessert party, casual buffet, co-ed barbeque  or dinner)

  • Determine Guest List

  • Select a theme

  • Mail out invitations 3 weeks prior to Shower Date, request RSVP, include a map and directions if necessary

  • Plan and order party ware and decorations

  • Plan food menu

  • Plan party games

  • Reserve rental items or make restaurant reservations

  • Purchase or make party favors

Adoption Showers

Shower for 2nd, 3rd.... Child

The adoption of a baby should be celebrated!

For showers in this situation a few adjustments need to be made.

Suggest a "One Month Birthday/Shower" or a "One Month Home" shower for the baby to the parents.

Talk with the parents to see when they feel they would be ready for a party. They may want to adjust a little.

When planning games at the shower, use games that don't relate to pregnancy, just babies or motherhood.

Themes can be traditional, but you will also know the sex of the baby so you may want to choose a color theme.

Every baby deserves a shower!

Throw a shower as if it was a first-time Mom, with a few adjustments.

Siblings should be invited to the party no matter the age. They will enjoy being apart of this.

When purchasing gifts, think of replacing items that may have been worn from the other child.

If she has another infant or toddler, she may need a double stroller and another crib.

Baby Shower Theme Ideas

Pooh/Teddy Bear

 Care Bear

Laundry/Linen Theme

Go with this adored Pooh character or just a teddy bear theme.

Use Pooh theme decorations or find teddy bear posters, photos, stuffed animals, etc. to decorate the party room.

A giant Pooh or Teddy bear tied with balloons makes a great table centerpiece.

If the sex of the baby is known use one of these cute bears for a table centerpiece and tie balloons to it.

If having a luncheon, put  bears with balloons at each table.

Play soft lullaby music or fun pooh songs.

For the Pooh theme, use  terra cotta pots to place utensils rolled up in napkins and tied with yellow and green ribbon.  As a party favor give out small jars of honey. For the Pooh theme use these cute Hunny Loot bags.

The Care Bear theme makes a colorful rainbow for your baby shower.

Decorate with:

Pastel 12" Balloons

Prismatic Sun Balloon

Rainbow Boas hung around the room.

If you are comfortable with balloons, you can use this kit to create a 78" h x 96" w

Rainbow Balloon Arch.

Use this Care Bear Spring Pail for table centerpieces.

Find some fun facts about Care Bears to use for a trivia game.

Add these cute twisters to your favor bag.

Just think of all the extra laundry that will be done with a new baby and create a fun Laundry/Linen theme shower.

Use the Baby Clothes Ensemble theme partyware.

Create a faux clothes line across the party room and use clothes pins to hang some onesies, bibs, a cloth diaper, spit-up towel and sleeper.  Tie balloons to the line alternating colors for a colorful look.

Use a small wicker laundry basket as a table centerpiece, fill with rolled baby wash cloths in various colors.

For a party favors, give out "tide-to-go" sticks, mini packets of Woolite, mesh laundry delicate bags, etc.  Check the travel section of your local department store for small size laundry favors.

Splish-Splash

Mom On The Go Health/Safety

Rubber Ducky, you're the one,
You make bath time lots of fun........

This shower is all about bath time! Use the  Rubber Duckie theme partyware, balloons, cake pan  and more for your party.

Purchase a baby bath tub or fun bucket and create a  room centerpiece. Ask guest to bring one small item to fit into the tub and  add some baby wash clothes rolled up.

Fill room with rubber ducks.  Use them as balloon weights.

For a unique favor give guest these old fashioned wooden duck push-up toy.

For that working Mom who will go back after her maternity leave, plan a "Mom On The Go" theme.

Use the "Baby on the Way" theme invites, thank you and party tableware for this theme. Or how about the Mod Mom's Ensemble.

Prepare the new mom for what she will need to head back to work.

Use a diaper bag as the centerpiece for your table.  Stuff it with tissue paper to give a full look and allow it to stand up.  Tie some balloons to the bag.

Put big and little footprints cutouts on the wall.

Create a "Safe Home" theme to help the new parents with making their home safe.

Serve a healthy shower buffet, but you can indulge in cake.

Decorate with general baby shower supplies.

You may be able to find some safety signs to hang around the room, like the car "Baby On Board" signs.

Gifts for safety can be a first- aid kit, outlet covers, cabinet locks, ear thermometer, baby monitor, pool alarms and gates.

For a party favor give out safety flashlight key chains.

 Co-Ed

Nursery Rhyme Theme

Invite the Dad-to-Be and spouses or boyfriends of your guests.

Determine if you are going to do a barbeque or formal dinner or hors d'oeuvres.

You can choose any theme for decorations or just a general baby shower theme.

Add some little bibs and

t-shirts hung around the room that say, "I love Mom" and "I love Dad".

Don't forget to let the Dad-to Be help open the gifts.

Use this as the general theme or pick a specific rhyme like Twinkle, Twinkle, Little Star.

Place nursery rhyme books all over the room and present them to the Mom-to-be as a gift.

Photo-copy nursery rhymes and hang then around the

room.

Find stuff animals or toys that represents a character/object in the rhyme. Use them as balloon weights.

Play nursery rhyme music.

Pacifier Balloons

Make these fun pacifier balloons for any theme.

Here's what you'll need to make one:

1 Clear 11" balloon

4 Colored 5" balloons (use pink, blue, or yellow)

1 260 balloon for the handle

First create a cluster with the four 5" balloons. Then twist on the clear 11" balloon. When blowing up the 260 balloon, leave a little at the tip for tying. Tye the 260 balloon on the other side of the cluster. Tying it's end around the cluster center to create the pacifier handle.
