A timeless
favorite for all kids. One child starts the game ( usually the birthday
child). All other children sit in a large circle. The child who is
it goes around the circle tapping the top of the children's head lightly
saying, "DUCK". He then chooses one person, by tapping their
head and saying, "GOOSE". That person must get up and chase the
person who was it to tag them. The person who was it, must race around the
circle and try to sit down in the spot that was vacant before being
tagged. If he makes it the "GOOSED" person is it, if he
gets tagged, he remains it. |
If this is an
outdoor party and you can get hay bales, set them up in the yard in a
circle, as I did in the barnyard scene photo below. Play some fun farmyard
music and have the kids walk around the outer circle and when the music
stops they must sit on a hay bale. Since the hay bales are big, I
allowed 3 children per bale the first round, then 2, then 1 for
elimination. Depending on the number of children at your party you
can determine the breakdown. Also, when I got to 4 children, them one hay
bale was eliminated, so they circled the middle and two outer ones, then
just two outer ones, them just one.

Supplies
needed for this game:
1.
Pens (crates, boxes, plastic laundry baskets, etc.) I happened to use a wood shelf turned on it side.
2.
3 large plastic fly swatters.
Mark each with a letter to spell out
PIG!
3.
25-50 small pink balloons
4.
Pink Curling ribbon
5.
Black permanent marker
6.
3 - small pig cutouts with one letter on each to spell "PIG".
Add
any stuff animal pigs to the top or around for
fun.
Prior
to the party, inflate with air your pink balloons about 1/3 full. Draw
with permanent black marker a pig face (eyes and nose). Tie a 6 inch piece
of curling ribbon to the tied not and curl it for a pig's tail.
Store in large refuge bags until party. You may have a few pop, so add
some extras. Cut out a pig shape for the three pens and write a
one letter on each. Write one letter of pig on each of the fly
swatters. Now each fly swatter matches to a pig pen.
Play
the game. Set up pens and a start line. Set up children into teams
and line them up at the start line. Each team gets a swatter with a
letter. This letter corresponds to the letter for the team's pen. So, team
"P", must swat pigs into pen "P", and so
on. Spread all the pig balloons between the start line and the
pens. Tell the children, the pigs got loose from their pens and we have to
help the farmer get them back in. Each player gets a turn to
swat one pig into the pen, then runs back and hands swatter to the next teammate
in line.
This continues until all pigs are penned. The faster a team is at swatting the more pigs they get in their pen. Be
careful, some pigs try to escape their pens, especially on windy
days. Once all pigs are swatted into the pens, the team with the
most pigs in their pen wins! |
