Autumn Leaf Magnet/Spider Pop/Bat Bean Bags

This picture shows three crafts I have created.  They are the autumn leaf magnet (right), bat bean bags and spider pop (left).  Instructions for all three are listed below.

Autumn Leaf Magnet Materials:

  • Orange craft foam sheets

  • Black permanent marker

  • Gold glitter pen

  • 1" round magnet

  • craft glue

  • scissors

  • pencil

Autumn Leaf Assembly:

Use a real or paper leaf as your pattern.

Trace leaf outlines on craft foam sheets with pencil.

Cut leaves out of foam craft.

Using a black permanent marker draw leaf veins on the leaf.  Add some gold glitter to your

leaf.  Let gold glitter dry.

Glue magnet to back of leaf.  Let dry.

You can add words to the stem of the leaf, like

"Autumn", a child's name, "It's Fall", "Glitter of Autumn", etc

Note: If doing this project with kids younger than 7, I suggest that you precut the leaves and use washable markers or help them with using the permanent marker.

Bat Bean Bag Materials:

  • 1 yard of Halloween material

  • black thread

  • popcorn kernels

Bean Bag Assembly:

Simply cut 3 1/4" squares from the material.  Take two squares and match them with

the right side of the material facing together.  Sew a 1/4" hem on three sides. On the

fourth side sew 2/3 of the side.

Turn the material inside out through the small opening left of the fourth side.  Fill with popcorn kernels.  Sew up the hole.

I used these for many Halloween parties.  We have tossed them into Halloween buckets, witches pots, and even on a large pumpkin that was carved out.

Note:  Please make sure you repair loose stitching since they are filled with small kernels.  I have also used the same material to cover embroidery hoops (not pictured). We

used the hoops for a pumpkin toss.  You have to make sure your embroidery hoop

will fit over your pumpkin.

Spider Pop Supplies Materials:

  • Tootsie Roll Pop

  • 3 black pipe cleaners

  • 2 purple or orange pipe cleaners

  • back 1/2" bead

  • 3mm to 5mm pair of wiggle eyes

  • glue

Spider Pop Assembly:

Cut two of the black and purple (or orange) pipe cleaner in half.  Twist the two colors

together making four pieces.   Cut a small piece (1 1/2") and twist it around the center

of all four pieces and then twist around the stem of the pop below the candy.  You may

want to put a dab of glue to hold.

Glue wiggle eyes onto black bead.  Slide black bead on pop stick over wrapper. Glue to hold in place.  If adults are making these, you can use hot glue.  The tootsie pop becomes the body of the spider.
